How to care for your wardrobe
One of the most important things when looking to create a sustainable wardrobe is the way in which we look after our clothes, by taking care this will make our pieces last longer and will also save us in the long run due to them not needing to be replaced and limiting our waste by not disposing of these items. We’ve broken it down on how to give our wardrobe a second life, and to make our wardrobe work for us.
1. Mindful Storage:
Treat each piece with respect by storing them thoughtfully. Hang delicate fabrics on suitable hangers to maintain their shape, and fold heavier items neatly.
Employ garment bags for cherished or delicate pieces, shielding them from dust and potential damage.
2. Gentle Cleansing Rituals:
Honour care labels and guidelines during the laundering process. Separate colours and handle delicate garments with care, considering hand washing or protective mesh bags.
Use the appropriate amount of detergent to maintain fabric integrity, preventing excessive buildup that might harm the material.
3. Ongoing Maintenance:
Attend to your clothing's needs promptly. Repair loose buttons, address loose threads, and tend to small tears to prevent further deterioration.
Rotate your wardrobe items regularly, granting equal attention to each piece to avoid overuse.
4. Seasonal Reverence:
Embrace the start of each season with a wardrobe evaluation. Bid farewell to worn-out, ill-fitting, or forgotten pieces, making space for renewed appreciation.
Safeguard off-season garments with care, employing airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags to preserve their condition.
